To be quite honest it hasn't always been this pleasant. I went through some dark passages, exciting perhaps, but fraught. Today, towards the tail end, I owe all of my happiness to my wife and son, who are both exemplary characters, and who make life more meaningful and profound. And that's as it should be. We worry and fret about all sorts of issues far beyond our control, but the lived phenomenon of life comes down to a small circle of friends and kinfolk. That's no revelation, it's almost a platitude, but the core realization would serve anyone well if it were a guiding principle. Build and care for that core in order to know some happiness in a life that can all too easily distract you, misdirect you, and even harm you.
